Kelly Gilbert
b i o g r a p h y
Kelly Gilbert is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice comprises painting, drawing, sculpture, and installation. Her work investigates self-expression and identity, often juxtaposing powerful and robust figures with thoughtful, gazing subjects. She draws inspiration ranging from modern sculpture to contemporary influences like Kehinde Wiley and Louise Zhang to conduct a nuanced exploration into authenticity, emotion, and vulnerability. Infused with a playful color palette influenced by synth pop aesthetic and psychedelia, her work aims to illuminate and immerse. Two of her works, Press Play, and The Saddest Show on Earth, have been featured in the 2020 edition of Sanskrit Literary-Arts Magazine. She is currently pursuing a B.F.A. in Graphic Design with a minor in Art History at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
