Artist Statement

Through oil painting and mixed media drawing, I explore solitude, memory, and the possibility that the transcendent can be found in ordinary moments. I am interested in encounters where inner experience extends beyond the self, revealing a connection between the visible world and what lies beyond it. My paintings center on the human form, depicting figures that move between hushed contemplation and expansive gestures while embodying introspection, wonder, and yearning. Rich colors and wisps of smoke dissolve the boundary between figure and environment, allowing the surrounding space to become an extension of the figure’s inner world.

I work with oil paint, chalk pastel, graphite, and charcoal, drawn to each material's inherent softness and ephemerality. Hues fade, blend, blur, or dissolve into one another just as memories soften over time, allowing thoughts and emotions to diffuse into the surrounding atmosphere. Through these transformations, my practice asks how wonder can transmute the familiar, revealing possibilities beyond what is immediately visible.
